April feels like a month of action for me. I spent most of last month packing, unpacking and cleaning and even though I am now suffering with a bit of a bad back I really feel like this is the month where I need to get my butt into gear and start moving my projects forward.
I’m definitely more of a right brain creative person and I always say ‘I can smell an opportunity a mile away’ but the problem with personalities like mine is that you want to do everything – all at the same time! I’m a great starter but a rubbish finisher. I’m the dreamer, the entrepreneur, the visionary, the risk-taker and when I get an idea I just want to get on with it.
Are you like that?
There’s nothing wrong in having goals and dreams – the more the better I say – but one of the things I’ve known for a long time is that it is very difficult to really succeed and move to the next level on your own.
As they say (whoever THEY is!), ‘no man (or woman) is an island’. I believe we were not put on this earth to do everything by ourselves and I also believe that if you can do it on your own then your vision is not big enough. The bigger the vision, the bigger the help you will need.
However, I sometimes find it difficult to ask for help. I know I really need it but I’m quite independent and at times I just feel like it’s much easier for me to do something myself rather than take the time to explain it. Which is very counter productive!
I’ve always been the kind of person who makes decisions very quickly and just rolls her sleeves up and gets on with things but over the years I have really noticed that if I want to grow and if I want to complete my projects I am going to need help.
There really are so many benefits to asking for help – not least just having someone to talk to if you’re self-employed and share the load with. People under-estimate how lonely it can be working by yourself and trust me there are only so many conversations you can have with the cat!
Also they say (it’s THEY again!) that two heads are better than one and having support and someone to bounce ideas off of and give you feedback can be invaluable. Asking for help is a sign of confidence and boldness because it shows you want to be better at what you do.
I certainly don’t look at asking for help as a negative as I know that there are people out there who are on this planet to specifically help you. They have the skills, gifts and talents you need and are ready and able to help. We can’t all be good at everything so at some point in life you just have concentrate on what you’re good at and get the help you need for the things you are not.
Recently a lady reminded me not to be afraid to ask for help and so I want to pass that on to you to. Don’t let your fears or doubts stop you from reaching out to people who are willing and able to help you because there is one thing I know for sure – you may also be the solution to someone else’ problem. So make that call today!
I would love to know if you find it easy to ask for help? If not, what stops you?
